Fruity curry with Turkish apricots

Game of Thrones has me mesmerized. I often catch myself thinking that I am Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Khaleesi of the Dothraki and Mother of Dragons. If anyone messes with me they’ll be very, very sorry. I can totally see myself sitting in the Iron Throne (ruling with an iron fist) and living in King’s Landing with the coolest wardrobe ever. Our parrot has been making very strange sounds lately, I think I’ll be able to fool some people that I have a pet dragon.

Seeing as winter is coming I best be sure to prepare dinner that will keep us warm (meaning my three dragons and kazillion soldiers). This fruity curry will do the trick as it is packed with spices and the beef will give my soldiers strength when they reach the seven kingdoms. I thought the Turkish apricots would serve as a remembrance of our travels from the east, and they are a lovely addition to the curry.

500 g beef strips

1 onion, chopped

2 teaspoons garlic

2 teaspoons coriander

2 teaspoons cumin

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon paprika

Pinch of cayenne pepper

1 large potato, peeled and diced

Handful of baby carrots

Handful of dried Turkish apricots, quartered

1 cup apple juice

2 tablespoons Mrs Balls fruit chutney

1. Fry the onion and garlic in a splash of oil. Add the beef strips and spices and fry for around 5 minutes.

2. Add the potato, carrot, apricots, apple juice and chutney.

3. Simmer at a low heat for about an hour.

4. Serve with basmati rice or roti.
