After about 4 months I finally finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Although the book was a bit dark at times and the ending was stretched out too long, I really enjoyed it. The novel is set over a few years, allowing you to get to know the main character, Theo Decker, quite well. Even though you sympathise and relate with him on many levels, it is the wise old Hobie who stole my heart. While reading the novel I thought of Hobie as Hal Holbrook (<–love this guy).

The Goldfinch didn’t make my top 10, in fact I wouldn’t even put it in my top 20 – but it is a good book and I appreciated the references to the artworks and museums. If you read more than 10 books a year, then definitely read this. If not, gimme a call and I’ll give you a worthwhile list.

Soooooo. Dom Pedros with hazelnut liqueur. It’s creamy and boozy and a great after dinner treat. Best enjoyed on a hot summers eve with your hubby on your garden bench celebrating your 2-year-and-9-month anniversary. Cheers!

Ingredients:

4 scoops of vanilla ice cream (I used this ice cream)

250 ml milk

50 ml Grundheim hazelnut liqueur

Method:

1. Whizz the ingredients together in a blender and serve ice cold.

  1. I loved the beginning of The Goldfinch, but to be honest I HATED Boris and all of the parts that included him…so parts of the second half were kind of blech to me.
