Beef stroganoff


It will be 2015 in one month. I am really looking forward to it! I tend to get super positive this time of year – making plans and resolutions and getting excited about everything the new year holds. That includes quite a few adventures in the kitchen, which is always thrilling!

Sometimes, though, you aren’t really in the mood for something extravagant or daring. You need something that reminds you of simpler times, something like the ever popular beef stroganoff. It is made of a few basic ingredients and delivers robust flavours that will keep you wanting more. This is perfect for a Monday night dinner – comfort food with minimum effort.



400 g beef strips

1 onion, chopped

1 teaspoon garlic

300 g mushrooms, halved

1 green pepper, chopped

1 teaspoon paprika

1 tablespoons bisto

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 tablespoons mustard

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 cup beef stock

120 ml plain yogurt


  1. Fry the garlic and onion in a splash of olive oil. Once the onions turn translucent, add the beef.
  2. When the beef is browned, add the paprika, mushrooms and green pepper. Fry for around 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, bisto and beef stock. Bring to a boil and then allow it to simmer on a low heat for about an hour.
  4. Add the yogurt just before serving with rice or pasta.
