Greek meze

Plato, Socrates, Pythagoras and Archimedes. Glorious beaches with crystal clear water. Vangelis. Aristotle Onassis. Scenic foothills and charming villages. Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo and Athena. One of the oldest countries in the world. Greece.

With fresh vegetables and olive oil as a foundation, Greek cuisine is very healthy and flavourful. My hubby and I was inspired to host a dinner party with this theme, and we were quite impressed with the results. Our guests were great sports and dressed up in white and gold, blue and red to resemble ancient Greeks.

A wide variety of fare can be used to make up a Greek meze – this is what we used:

  • Green, black and calamata olives
  • Tzatziki
  • Beef and chicken souvlaki
  • Pita bread
  • My version of spanakopita
  • Raisin bread
  • Halloumi
  • Green asparagus dip
  • Olive and herb cream cheese
  • Fried baby brinjals and red and yellow peppers
