Butternut and chicken salad with baby spinach and orange


Although another cold front will be hitting us on Thursday, I decided that it’s salad season! To celebrate I bring you a scrumptious, flavourful and bright butternut and chicken salad with baby spinach, avocado, feta cheese, zesty orange slices and sesame and flax seeds for some texture (and added goodness). This salad is great for lunch or a light dinner, and I think it would be fantastic if you layer it in a jar and take along with you on a picnic. Enjoy the warmer days – good times ahead! 🙂

Cookbook Club: Jan Braai and the burger of all burgers


Last week we celebrated Heritage Day, now also called National Braai Day thanks to Jan Braai, author of this month’s cookbook Die Demokratiese Republiek van Braai (the book is also available in English as The Democratic Republic of Braai). This guy is a genius for uniting the country with something that is truly South African – and with it comes good food and being all round sociable and happy.

Cauliflower and mushroom stirfry noodles with cashew nuts


After a weekend of celebrating Heritage Day with lots of meat on the braai, I’ve never been so glad for meat-free Mondays. This vegetarian cauliflower and mushroom stirfry noodles with cashew nuts, sesame seeds and spring onion is better than any Chinese take-out I’ve tried (and I llllllove Chinese take-out). It is just packed with flavour, different textures and goodness – an awesome way to start the week.
